National French Week comes around yearly during Nov.  Students engage in the Francophone culture, listen to current music, watch videos, sample foods, and learn about the diverse regions of France.

“It was such a great experience,” junior Margaret Stein said.

On Nov. 10, students attended a French Immersion Day hosted by the American Association of Teachers of French.

“We learned a lot about French immigration and other political topics,” junior Tristan Curtis said.”  France is very involved in Texas.”

At this celebration students were able to attend different sessions on French dance, folklore, language and foods.

“The food was great-the butter was in the shape of a rose,” senior Phoebe Shigley said.  “I was surprised at how many French companies are located in Texas.”

To continue the celebration of the month, the French AP students attended a French-American Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Nov. 12.

“The keynote speaker at this luncheon was the French Ambassador, François Delattre,” French teacher Emily Thomas said. “It was an incredible opportunity to be able to take my students to hear the Ambassador speak.”

The Ambassador spoke on the economic ties France has with Texas, citing examples such as there are 200 French companies located in Texas.  French companies employ 43 thousand people in Texas and they are the third largest investor in Texas behind the UK and Germany.

“He is a very gracious man and we are thankful to the French-American Chamber of Commerce for extending this opportunity to us,” Thomas said.
