ARGYLE ISD BOARD CALLS BOND ELECTION

School Board Utilized Facilities Committee Input on Projects to be Funded

Argyle, TX – March 19, 2014 – The Argyle Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to call a bond election on May 10, 2014. The election is for one propositions totaling $45 million. Proposition 1 for $45 million addresses current capacity needs, facility renovations, and athletic updates and improvements.

The Argyle ISD bond proposal is based on recommendations from a Facilities Committee, a diverse group of citizens, parents, staff, and Board members from across the district. The Facilities Committee worked together during the 2012-2013 school year to review district facilities, demographic data, district financial information and enrollment trends. The Board officially called a Bond Election February 24 to put before voters on the May 10 ballot.

Bond Election
The $45 million bond provides funds for new facilities, as well as major renovations and upgrades at high school campus and stadium in addition to providing classroom technology upgrades and buses for transportation.

Proposition One:
New Middle School Campus (Phase I of HS) – $30,150,000
New building for 750 students, 6-8th grades built on the site on the northwest corner of 377 and 1171
District-wide Technology – $2,000,000
New Buses-$550,000
High School Science Lab Updates-$155,000
Baseball/Softball Seating (750 baseball, 400 softball)-$218,000
Baseball Outfield Wall-$145,500
Girls’ Field House/Locker Room (football and soccer visitor locker room and stadium restrooms)-$1,029,000
Stadium Seating (800 home, 600 visitors)-$280,000
Indoor Activity Center (60 yards for band and athletics)-$3,699,000
Locker Rooms for tennis, baseball, and softball (includes offices and storage)-$2,475,500
New tennis courts plus lighting (includes 4 new courts)-$380,000
Turf at existing baseball and softball fields-$1,440,000
Bond Program Contingency-$2,477,075

Tax Impact
If Argyle ISD voters approve the bond election, that cost to property taxpayers would be no more than $10.42 a month per $100,000 of taxable home value. The tax rate for taxpayers 65 and over will not be affected by this election because their taxes are frozen unless improvements are made on property.
