Cate Clark is Go Photo and scheduling manager for The Talon News. Currently a junior, this is her second year as a member of the Talon staff and her first time a part of the UIL film team. Outside of journalism, she is the Public Relations officer of the National Honor Society. In her free time, she pursues her passion for photography, listens to music throughout the day, hangs out with her friends and family, watches scary movies, and is always taking photos of the sunset.

Making a Name for Herself

As the meeting takes place on December 1, Sasa King analyzes thoughts with UNICEF at the Argyle High School about Angel Tree. Some upcoming events are the daddy-daughter dance in February and a color run. “Angel Tree is where we buy gifts for kids who won’t have Christmas gifts this year because their parents can’t buy them presents,” sophomore Sasa King said. “It means a lot to me because I think it’s important that we’re trying to understand how other people feel that aren’t receiving gifts and aren’t as privileged as us.”

During the UNICEF meeting, on December 1 the members discuss plans for upcoming events at the Argyle High School. Alex Daggett has been in UNICEF for three years and this year is the president alongside the vice president, Nicholas West. “I was inspired to join UNICEF because I’ve always had a strong passion for helping people in any way that I can and I’m a big believer in charity work and UNICEF is a great way to do that,” senior Alex Daggett said.

Putting in the hours for numerous years, sophomore Gabby Campbell practices on November 17 in the Argyle Eagle gym to perfect her skills. Campbell started on the varsity basketball team her freshman year alongside senior Bailey Timmons. “Having Bailey be there to guide us, be a leader on the team, and help us through everything because we didn’t really know what we were doing,” Campbell said. “One bad thing was that I wasn’t that experienced being in the big games and it was very stressful.” (Cate Clark|The Talon News)

Millington is a move-in this year from Illinois. “Knowing that if something bad happens, or doesn’t play out the way it’s supposed to, I know my teammates will have my back,” Campbell said. During practice on November 17, Kendall Baker shoots her shot from the paint in the Argyle Eagle gym. Baker courageously battled with type 1 diabetes after being diagnosed when she was younger. “One of my biggest setbacks would probably be diabetes,” Baker said. “Sometimes I will be in games and my blood sugar will go low affecting my playing time and also how I feel, making me not do as good as I should be doing.” (Cate Clark|The Talon News)

After the Lady Eagles win against the Ponder Lions on November 17, the team practices for the upcoming game in the Argyle Eagle gym. They have 4 move-ins this 2021-2022 season. “The chemistry on the basketball team this year is actually very exciting because we’re all so close,” sophomore Kendall Baker said. “We get along and there’s no drama, so I think it’s good, especially on the basketball court because no one has any underlying problems so you can’t affect each other.” (Cate Clark|The Talon News)

Balancing her club and school practices, Kendall Baker applies herself in the Argyle Eagle gym on November 17. Combining both schedules, Baker feels overwhelmed at times. “The hardest part would probably be it feels like it gets too much at times so it feels like youre overworked,” Baker said. “At the same time you just have to keep the mindset that it’s getting you better for the next season and getting you prepared for any situation in the game.” (Cate Clark|The Talon News)

Eddie Robertson, a veteran who served in the military, comes on the Argyle High School football field to represent the Army on Nov. 5. Robertson served in the Army for two years. “In all reality I was drafted,” Robertson said. “I’m a bus driver here and my daughter is a coach and a teacher.”

At the Argyle High School home senior night football game against the Paris Wildcats, veterans who served are recognized on Nov. 5. Veterans who proudly served our country, come together as one to salute to the flag during the national anthem. “We thought it would be cool to extend this to every veteran in the stadium for Veterans Day two years ago and the result was profound,” Cairney said. “Veterans enjoyed the moment, as did so many of those who saw it.”

During the national anthem on Nov. 5, Timian Lewis salutes to the flag before the Eagles play in their senior night football game at the Argyle High School stadium. Lewis is the first in his family to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. “Actually it was a legacy of the generations in my family,” Lewis said. “I chose the Marines because it was the toughest my dad told me.”

Chief Cairney is the police officer at Argyle High School. “After my time at the Air Force Academy I served as a commissioned officer for 21 years and retired in 2013,” Cairney said. “I always knew the United States was and is a special place and one which we need to defend.”
