UIL Places First Overall in Regional Competition

Argyle students once again placed extremely well in regional competition, earning the most points of any school in attendance. Argyle won five team events, including Accounting, Calculator Applications, Mathematics, Number Sense, and Science.

Senior Matthew McKeever lead the way for the Accounting team’s win with 414 points. He, seniors Hayden Little, Claire Betzhold, and junior Preston List combined for 1225 points to advance to state. The seniors continued to carry the load as the Calculator Applications team placed first with Cooper Rodgers (266), Rhiannon Mohar (259), Arya Monticino (224), and junior Travis Kocz0 (233) totaled 758 points on the day. Rhiannon and Travis also placed first and fourth respectively for the Mathematics team. along with Justin Clark and Shash Tripathi.

After placing second in Mathematics, Justin Clark placed first in Number Sense (310), while his classmates Matthew Castle (218), Nicholas Mohar (200), and Will Blake (185) helped carry the team to first place. The final team to place first in region was the Science team with Hugh Devine coming in first (174), Samantha Rider third (146), Sarah Llewellyn fourth (126), and Zack Schermerhorn fifth (94). The spelling team didn’t advance any individuals, but placed second as a team.

Other advancing students were Hayden Little (2nd in Computer Applications), Carleigh Klusman (2nd in Literary Criticism), Sarah Llewellyn (3rd in Ready Writing and 2nd in Physics), Hugh Devine (1st in Chemistry), and Samantha Rider (2nd in Chemistry).

State competitions will take place May 25-28, and Argyle will be represented as they seek to claim more state championship honors.
