Young Life meetings held every week on Monday at 7:47 PM have students attending from all grades of Argyle. At these meetings, students play games, hang out with friends, and learn about God. Young Life provides insight to the student’s relationships with Christ. The meetings consist of activities, followed by songs, skits, and a closing message from the leaders.

The staff of Young Life focus on helping kids and try to teach to their priorities.

“Young Life is world-class organization for adolescents,” Young Life staff associate Kody Delmare said. “Our staff and volunteers enter the world of kids, focusing on what matters to them – fun, adventure, friendship, and a sense of significance. In doing so, we earn the privilege of talking to them about something that matters most of all: the truth of God and His love for them.”

Although many students attend church on Sundays or Wednesdays, students believe Young Life provides a completely different experience.

“Young Life is a ministry designed for high school students that meets them where they are,”  Music Coordinator and Argyle senior Tanner Watson said. “Instead of a normal church approach, it’s more of a hangout kind of approach. It’s like spoon feeding the Gospel, instead of shoving it down kids’ throats. While the normal Wednesday night at church consists of more faith-based things, at Young Life you’re trying to reel kids in, whether it’s through games or the songs that we play.”

Young Life leaders care about the students they mentor and try to consistently engage with students in their free time.

“We go to the students instead of them coming to us,” Delmare said. “We do this in many ways such as going to lunches, sporting events, band concerts, choir concerts, or simply going where they are. We also meet once a week as a whole for ‘club’, which consists of us playing their kind of music and playing games. We use a lot of humor in the hope of breaking down walls so students may hear about Jesus.”

Tanner Watson, along with seniors Tad Smith, Becca Cox, and junior Preston List, lead the songs during Young Life.

“I really enjoy being able to sing whether it’s worship songs or popular songs,” Watson said.  “I enjoy singing with my friends and people I’ve known for a long time. There’s nothing better than standing in front of people and not being able to hear yourself because all the students are singing over you.”

Though games, skits, and songs dominate the time frame of Young Life, the message and mission remains constant.

“Our hope is always the same,” Delmare said. “We want to have our high school and middle school friends know and love Jesus Christ and grow in their faith.”
