The band will perform their first competition with the piece Alleluia at the GT Classic Marching Festival this Saturday at Collins Stadium. The band has won 3 consecutive state awards and is working towards a fourth.

“We have been very disciplined during practices,” junior Breanna Dewoody said. ” It’s exciting to finally get to show everyone our complete show.”

Many other well known bands will be performing at the competition, such as the award winning North Lamar.

“They always have a good show,” senior Ben Roney said. ” I’m looking forward to competing against them.”

The band added new choreography and props this week in order to have Alleluia polished  for Saturday.

“I think we are going to cope well with the new movements,” Roney said. “It’s a lot to take on, but if we continue to stay focused during rehearsals, I think we can handle it pretty successfully.”

Some members believe that with the 26 new marchers the competition will be very beneficial for the beginners.

“It will give the underclassmen a chance to deal with fatigue and hot weather, and also marching all five [movements],”junior Emily Elsom said, “So it will build up their endurance.”

By competing at Collins Stadium, the band feel it will contribute to there overall placing at state.

“It will be a good competition to get some nerves out and to understand what competitions are like,” Roney said. “I think it will prepare us really well for state.”
