The Eagles wrestling team’s season ended over the weekend at the Berry Center in Cypress Texas as Heath Roth failed to repeat as the state champion, losing in the championship round with a score of 3-0 to earn the silver medal. Freshman Cullen Davee also went to state as an alternate but did not see any action. Heath lost to senior Daniel Leal from Corpus Christi, who carried an undefeated record into the matchup.

Argyle ended its season with two people at state which is one more than last year. While the team only had four seniors, they had way more freshmen and the team appears to be good hands with Davee and Roth returning next year. With one more year under their belt, Argyle could have multiple state champions for the first time in their history.

When seniors Parker Marlow, Tucker Watson, Jeb Husby, and Brandon Flores joined wrestling their freshman year the team had about 7 or 8 varsity wrestlers, now almost every weight division is full with a talented JV team too. These four seniors helped bring life into the wrestling team that Argyle was known as before. Now that these seniors are gone, the team is handed over to the young, but talented Eagles.

Next year will be fun to watch as Roth returns angry and with vengeance, while Davee will look to build on a 29-7 freshman season. This team is on the up and up and class 5A better watch out for Argyle in the future.
