X-Files Come Back

Emma Malone, Reporter

The X-files first aired in 1993 and was an instant success. It follows two FBI agents who are on the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life. The X-files was the longest airing science fiction  TV show in history. It’s popularity gained it mass amounts of fans even to this day. In fact the series was such a success that they held a comic con convention in New York for all its fans. At this convention however they revealed the big news about the series coming back in 2016. The 2016 series brought back the original actors to create a big reuniting between Agents Mulder and Sculley.

January 24 the 10th season premiered with 16.19 million viewers tuning in. However, many viewers were not impressed with the new episode and when the next episode aired on January 25th only 9.67 viewers tuned in. The X Files will now air every Monday night at 7.

The first episode is the typical story line that viewers had known and loved. For example, the detectives join together with witty chemistry on a quest to prove alien life.  However, the lines were cheesy and staged. It felt like they were going through the motions trying to create the same feel of the original seasons. Unfortunately, they failed at this and missed the mark of the original charm.

The second episode however was surprisingly better. They unfold the story much slower instead of presenting the entire plot at one time like the first episode. They do a good job of creating an individual story in the episode while also adding to the over all season plot. It’s too bad that they did so poorly on the first episode because it lost interest for many viewers. The X-files has potential to pick up especially with support from former fans, but it still has a long way to go.
