The University Interscholastic League State meet took first place in Austin the week of May 19-22. Over 25 students competed and brought home medals. Alongside coaches including Kimberley Kass and Deserae Good (science), Stacy Short (journalism/headline), Cliff McCurdy (science/math), Argyle students dominated. The Argyle math team consisting of Matthew Hayden (5th place), Ross Coker (3rd place), Ricky Pool (6th place) and Rhiannon Mohar (12th place) took first place overall. The science team consisting of Matthew Hayden (2nd place), Allison Gant (3rd place), Ross Coker (4th place), Hugh Devine (5th place) also took first place overall. Senior Ross Coker took first place for the third consecutive year in Number Sense. The rest of the Number Sense placed as follows: Justin Clark (8th place), Colton Katzen (11th place), Matthew Hayden (12th place). Senior Kelsey Peiser made Argyle proud by taking second place in Headline Writing for the second consecutive year. The calculator team consisting of Ross Coker (1st place), Rhiannon Mohar (3rd place), Arya Monticino (6th place), Cooper Rodgers (7th place) took first place overall. Junior Hayden Little placed third in Computer Applications and senior Emily King followed him in fourth place. Doubling the runner up teams’ score, the Argyle UIL Academics team won first place for the 9th year in a row.
