Eagles Track Team Soars at Home Meet

Eagles+Track+Team+Soars+at+Home+Meet

During track season it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to meet the high expectations of the coaches. The team practices countless hours to get ready for the next track meet perfecting hand offs for relays and getting fundamentals down for field events.

With more practice, the racers learn how to persevere for their events.

“You have to survive and keep pushing,” Jaxon Baum said. “You basically have to zone out any pain and just realize it’s only a minute of your life.”

This is a good mind set because most runners say they don’t feel the pain until the race is over.

“You just keep going and hope that the finish line gets closer,” Dalton Ledford said.

Some may wonder why anyone would enjoy track when it seems that they sit in the cold all day to run only one race, or participate in one event.

“You have to fall in love with the thought of being great and that’s the way I did with pole vault,” Ledford said. “When you reach the point that you love to do something, you will not think of it as work anymore and overcome the struggles.”

Overall track has many people competing individually in an event. However, their individual performance contributes to the team effort and everyone has to count on each other to do their best so the team can take home the gold.

“It’s all about chemistry and everyone has to work together so that it will work out in the end,” Drew Estrada said.
