Feb.13-15, the Lady Eagles Softball team competed in a tournament hosted at the Argyle softball fields. At this tournament, the Lady Eagles were able to pull through with an 18-1 win against Prestonwood Christian Academy, a 7-6 win against Decatur, and another big win against Callisburg with the ending score at 6-1. The team played a total of five games, ending with an impressive winning ratio.  With the season off to a great start, the Lady Eagles were able to gain preparation for district games later in the season.

“All the teams we played, excluding one, will be very comparable to teams we will play in district, which gave us great practice for what is to come,” senior, Bailey Sutton, said.

With games lined up against teams of great caliber, the team focused on the games ahead of them during the tournament and applied their skills to play impressive games.

“I was just trying to take one batter at a time and not get ahead of myself,” senior pitcher, Alyssa Bruton, said. “I was just trying to get outs.”

Highlights of the tournament included a three run home run against Callisburg from Kennedy Cullum, a home run by Adilen Gonzalez against Decatur, a home run by Cheyennea Althoff against Prestonwood, and 23 strike outs from Alyssa Bruton during the tournament.

The Lady Eagles will be playing Decatur Friday, Feb. 21 at Decatur.  After learning the ropes at the past tournament of what a game against Decatur looks like, they are currently preparing for another intense game

“We had a great opportunity to play Decatur in the tournament and we know they are a team that is going to put up a good fight.  Looking at the last game, we need to improve our hitting because Decatur outhit us and made no mistakes on the field because they are a team that puts the ball in play a lot,” Sutton said.
