On Tuesday Feb. 25 the Lady Eagles beat Birdville 3-2. Classified in 4A and ranked eighth in the state, Birdville had never lost to Argyle girls soccer before Tuesday. Hannah Neece and Madison Lee scored one and two goals, respectively, to help their team pull the victory.

“It was truly a ‘David and Goliath’ match, and I couldn’t be more proud of my team,” coach Jennifer Goodpastor said.

Birdville scored the first goal of the game in the first half, and the girls seemed to deflate for a moment before senior Hannah Neece weaved through six Birdville players from midfield and scored to tie the game.

A free kick from Birdville with ten minutes left in the game put the girls behind 1-2. Then junior Madison Lee tied with help from junior Cassie Hargroves.

With 1:27 left in the game, Lee scored a final time to push the team into the lead. Having finally realized a victory against Birdville, the Argyle crowd erupted into cheers.

“I don’t care what happens for the rest of the year, that win was worth it all,” said one parent.
