Lady Eagles Gear Up for Playoffs

“Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishment toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.” -Andrew Carnegie.

Teamwork is the ultimate tool in team sports. As for any team sport, there comes a time in the season that the team needs to pull together and really find drive and heart to be able to finish the season the way they want to, and the Argyle volleyball team is no exception. There comes a point in play offs where skill is no longer the top factor, and instead it’s really who wants it more. The lady eagles are hoping to be that team because they are willing to sacrifice themselves and dive out on the court, spend countless hours watching film, or spend extra time after school and on the weekends coming up to the school for Saturday practice. By the time that playoffs begin the season is already half way over. That can either be a time where teams begin to fall apart; personalities clash and the excessive time together wears players down. Or it can be a turning point in the season where teams push harder than ever had in the season. The Lady Eagles know this and are determined to play with seriousness and integrity during practice, and when it comes to games they don’t let their nerves interrupt their play. Instead, they’ll trust their teammates and play with confidence and smarts. Volleyball is a game of momentum and the best teams can stay level headed, instead of getting down in the lows and extra high in the highs. Argyle has done a good job of this by still playing up even when playing teams who aren’t at the same level as them. Energy on the court is effected by the fans, the other team, and, most importantly, the teammates on our own side of the court.

“Honestly this seasons team runs on energy. It takes the whole team to provide that fuel for us,”senior Strealy Sizelove said.”The whole court cheers expect for one person it’s not the same,” Sizelove said. “And the same goes for our bench, those girls help our energy so much because getting a kill and making a great play isn’t just a point for us, it’s a negative shift in the momentum for the other team and that shift is greater when were celebrating. No one likes messing up and when a team rubs it in by cheering like crazy it gets in your head so we use that to our advantage.”

Last Friday the volleyball team played a warm up match against 6A school Colleyville Heritage and won in four sets. The Lady Eagles officially start play offs November 2 and are excited to start their journey to state.

“Bushland is supposed to be our toughest competition and were really excited to hopefully meet them on the court at state,” junior Haylee Vanpopel said. “But we have to be focused on each team we play, we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves. We have to get to state first.”

Argyle is ranked second in the state behind Bushland, but they are hopeful to be able to compete in state and win the ultimate title.

The Lady Eagles play at Colleyville Heritage High School against Triple A Academy at 6:30. Come support your lady eagles in their first round of playoffs.
