Band Performs Annual Winter Concert

This Tuesday, Dec. 16, Argyle put on their annual winter concert for the community. The concert consisted of the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble playing set lists including popular holiday tunes. The Symphonic Band, led by Asa Burk, performed three pieces in their portion of the concert. The band first performed Suite Provencale by Jan Van der Roost, followed by the popular tune Greensleeves and finishing the performance with Wizards in Winter by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. This final piece was also played by the marching show during their Christmas halftime show.

The Wind Ensemble portion started with Procession of the Nobles, a tune by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and is well known from the opera, Mlada. Following this was Buglers Holiday by Leroy Anderson which included a cornet trio played by seniors Aric Kline, Nathan Little, and junior Zach Schermehorn. The holiday march was preceded by a Christmas-Sing-Along that combined many well known holiday songs to allow the audience to sing with the band as they played. The band continued with the ever popular Sleigh Ride, another popular tune by Leroy Anderson, and finished the concert with Black Horse Troop, a march by popular composer, John Philip Sousa.

The concert brought in many family members and friends of the band as well as many alumni of the band. The bands performance left the crowd with anticipation of the upcoming holiday and jolly tunes in their heads.
