Over spring break the Argyle Debate Team competed at two different state meets in Austin, Texas. These were the TFA (Texas Forensics Association) Debate meet, and the UIL Cross Examination Debate State meet.
The TFA Debate Meet is an open circuit of debate that does not have classifications or restrictions for private schools. It is the largest and most competitive debate circuit in the state. The results are below for placement.
Semi-Finalists in Congressional Debate: Caleb Leonard, and Liyah Cha
Semi-Finalist in Dramatic Interpretation: Alix Bourland
Top Speaker State Champion in Cross Examination Debate: Addison High
High was the top speaker out of all 160 competitors in the Cross Examination Debate event. This is a major accomplishment and she was Argyle Debate’s first state champion in the TFA meet.
At the UIL Cross Examination Debate State meet, Grant Parris placed sixth place in the 5A conference. Parris’s and High’s teams placed second place.
This is Argyle Debate’s highest placement at this meet and their first time competing in the final round of debate. Parris and High went undefeated through seven rounds of debate and the only round they lost was the finals on a two to one decision. 5A is one of the most challenging classifications for CX debate, so this is a huge accomplishment.
Congratulations to Argyle Debate!
