Remedy A Cappella is back for another year of competition singing and the group will be performing on Friday, December 1 at the Aca-Tex competition in Rockwall.
“Remedy is a high-level A cappella group, A cappella is singing music without any accompaniment and we perform arrangements of contemporary pieces that are specifically made for A cappella which is also combined with choreography to further enhance the performance. Remedy is also a competitive group competing in competitions around the state and around the country,” said Director Evan Ramos.
Remedy has tryouts for new members every year making it a different group annually.
“I heard about Remedy through some old family friends and I wanted to join because I saw some other people in my grade doing it and it seemed really cool, especially getting to compete and go to New York last year,” said first-year member and sophomore Lillian Duncan.
Remedy is considered to be a high-level group in the high school A Cappella world.
“I think Remedy differs from other groups because most groups perform more Hip-hop songs and more popular music while we perform lesser-known songs and do it at a high level. Also, I think we’re more student-led than other groups which I think makes a big difference,” said second-year member and junior Griffen St. James.
Remedy won third in the national ICHSA competition last year and will be competing again this year but they will be first-performing at Aca-Tex in Rockwall.
“Remedy will be competing again this year in both Aca-Tex and ICHSA, but first up is Aca-Tex which is a two-round competition in Rockwall that starts on Friday, with us only getting to perform one song, and if we make it to the next round then we get to perform our set of three songs that we’ve been working hard on for the past few months,” said Ramos.
As for the level of success the group has achieved in the past some group members believe they can have the same level of performance this year.
“I think it is absolutely possible that we can have that level of success again this year, but I think if we can make our practices go a little bit smoother then we’ll be one step closer to making it to nationals,” said Griffen.
