News Courses Offered This Year

For the 2018-2019 school year, seven brand new courses and four returning courses have been added to the official course list.   

Here is a quick summary for each of the new courses offered this year:

Electives

Dance II:

After the success of the Dance I class last year, the school has decided to add Dance II for those hoping to take the class for the second year. The class counts as one credit for Fine Art and is taught by Mrs. Martinez.

Drill Team II:

The Drill Team is here to stay for another year and a class for second-year team members has been added, Drill Team II. Drill Team II will be instructed by Mrs. Martinez and will count as one credit for a Fine Art elective.

Choir 3:

Another year for Choir has been added in the course offerings for third year members of the new choir program. The class is only offered for 10th – 12th grade and is a Fine Arts elective that will count for 1 credit. Choir 3 is currently taught by Mr. Griswold.  

Art 2:

Art 2 with a specialization in painting, drawing or sculpting is now available with Mrs. Kosla. It is only offered for 10th through 12th grade and requires an Art I prerequisite. The class is a Fine Arts elective and is also offered only during 7th period.

Lifetime Nutrition & Wellness:

Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness is a new elective now offered that focuses on helping students develop skills in the kitchen. The class will only count as ½ credit for the CATE elective and will be taught by Mrs. Hill in her second year here. The class will involve cooking and learning important dietary information.

American Sign Language II:

American Sign Language has come back for another year with the addition of ASL II. The class has proven to be popular with two classes offered for ASL I and one class offered for ASL II. The class has one credit for Foreign Language and Mrs. Smith will remain the teacher.

Stem

Dual Credit Biology:

Mrs. Good’s AP Biology class is now also a Dual Credit Biology credit. They offer two class periods for the class because it was in high demand. The Dual Credit students in the class with receive college credit for both a lecture (3 hours of college credit)  and a lab (1 hour of college credit) for Biology. 

 

There are four courses that will be returning to the courses offered, here is a summary for each class:

Humanities

Special Topic in SS: WWII  

This returning class was once taught by U.S. History teacher, Mrs.Romero, but this year the new AP World History Mr. Woody is the instructor. The class will study World War II in depth and will count as a ½ credit for one semester and will be offered in the fall and spring.  

STEM

Earth Space Science:

Coach Stone will be the teacher for the returning course, Earth Space Science. The class is for students interested in astronomy and will be one credit.  

Dual Credit Calculus:

Dual Credit Calculus has returned after a one-year hiatus and will be taught by the PAP Pre Calc and AP Calculus teacher, Mr.WIlliams. THe course will give Dual Credit students 3 hours of college credit.
