The Eagles soccer team is on a roll so far, going undefeated in the Alvarado tournament and beating Decatur and Kennedale. They have started strong after losing several starters including leading scorer Dylan Sadler and German exchange student Benedikt Van Alton. But returning starters Travis Garner and Michael Rigsby look to lead the team with young depth for another run through the season. The Eagles are 5-2, beating their first opponents before losing to their last two, Fort Worth Diamond Hills Jarvis and Mabank.

“We’ve been playing pretty well,” Garner said. “While obviously we would like to be 7-0, I really like how were developing as a team.”

The Eagles are working in a new goalie, senior Chase Book. The senior has played very well for his first season playing goaltender. Garner looks to lead the team to another trip to Georgetown. The team didn’t make an appearance in 2017 after making one in 2016 where they were bounced by Progreso.

“It’s pretty simple,” Garner said. “We want to end the season in Georgetown celebrating.”

Returning starters Isaac Aguilar and Tyler Debruin are playing well. New starter Gage Haltom is thriving and playing much better than expected coming into a new role on the defense. The defense has been the strong suit of the team so far, allowing ten goals over seven games and scoring 20.

The Eagles next game is home against Springtown on January 23. Springtown is 0-5, allowing over 7 goals per game.
