As the holiday season rapidly approaches, the eagle wrestling team looks to build on the success of years past. Last year sophomore Heath Roth continued his family’s legacy by winning the family’s fifth state title. The team has improved steadily winning three of their past seven against tough 5A opponents like Azle, Wakeland, Frisco Liberty and more. This year’s team will rely on young talent and senior leadership to continue their success. Seniors Tucker Watson, Parker Marlow, Jeb Husby, and Brandon Flores will lead the team.

“[Our outlook is] better than years past,” senior Tucker Watson said. “The team is much stronger.”

So far the team seems to be allowing Roth to succeed. Roth has not lost a match in his high school career and looks to continue that impressive streak. Roth dominated during his freshman year on his way to a 42-0 career record and a state championship.

“It’s amazing to think that we have an undefeated teammate, and it’s his sophomore year,” Watson said. “It’s a little intimidating, but he’s a great teacher.”

The four seniors have a total of 15 years wrestling between them and with one of the biggest teams in Argyle history. The four look to lead their team to heights never before seen in this program. With the young talent and senior leadership this team looks to make it to regionals and beyond.

The Eagles most recent meet was Tuesday, Dec. 12 at the home gym. The Eagles competed against district opponents, Burleson Centennial, Chisholm trail and and Northwest Eaton. The eagles dominated the meet beating all three schools. Heath Roth and Cullen Davee both won all three matches they wrestled in. This strong performance leaves Argyle in the driver’s seat in the district and puts them on their way to another deep playoff run.

Their next meet is in Wylie at the Wylie Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 16th.
