Teachers Behind the Scenes

Everyday behind the scenes teachers do things that help their students learn more everyday. Chemistry teacher Kimberly Kass is a prime example of a teacher who works hard behind the scenes to help her students learn more effectively in the classroom through chemistry labs.

Kass must set up labs for her Pre-AP and AP students to help them learn with hands-on experience. One of the most important steps for her is measuring the appropriate mass of each element, compound, solution, etc. In the picture above, Kass is massing a compound for an upcoming lab in one of her chemistry classes.

Kass not only has to prepare solutions and compounds, but also refill and clean up after a lab is complete, spending extra time before and after school to improve the learning atmosphere and give different learning methods for her students.

Recording data from the electronic tools used in some experiments is yet another task Kass carries out in order for students to analyze their data and help them understand experimented concepts.

Having the right chemicals, solutions, elements, etc. is a critical part of Kass’s preparation for the labs for her students. If she doesn’t have the appropriate chemicals for the experiments, it may not have the results Kass wants her students to find.

Measuring the exact amount of solution needed for the experiments is another factor that could lead to error in an experiment before it even begins. Kass has to be extremely careful while pouring, and has to do whatever it takes to make sure she gets the perfect amount of the solution for the lab. Setting and cleaning up the labs before and after school is just one example of what teachers do behind the scenes to help teach their students.
