Eagle Football Takes Revenge Over Celina in 43-14 Victory
September 12, 2016
The Eagles win 43-14 over the Celina Bobcats in the home opener for the Eagles. They were able to avenge last year’s 46-36 loss over the rival Bobcats.
Quarterback Hayden Clearman (12) threw for over 200 yards and also was very effective running the ball. Chase Estrada (9) caught two screen passes for huge gains to set up several goal line situations for the offense. The rushing attack was led by Don Williams. The defense played a dominant game led by the D-Line and the DB’s with Matthew Horton and Dillon Carter leading the way for the Eagles. With Horton’s constantly making plays in the backfield and Carter’s two interceptions, the Eagles were able to shut down Celina’s high-powered offence.
The screen pass was very prevalent this game leading to long gains by Chase Estrada and Casey Harper.
“It’s always huge to have the O-Line blocking down field allowing you to get into the open field and make plays,” Estrada said. “We’re lucky to have a very athletic line to allow us to run these types of plays.”
On the defensive side of the ball, Slater Wright (20) was very pleased with the performance of the defense.
“While there were a few mistakes made that will need to be shirred up, I thought the defense played really well from the D-Line getting pressure to Pierce making plays to Carter getting those two picks,” Wright said.
Next week, the Eagles play highly rated Abilene Wylie in Abilene. Wylie is 2-1 after victories over Denison and Vernon and a loss to Lubbock Monterey. The Eagles defeated Wylie twice last year, winning game one 20-10 and game two 24-17.
