Argyle Football Finishes Homecoming with Another Win
September 28, 2016
The Eagles defeated the Paris Wildcats 47-10 on homecoming Friday night. The offense controlled the line of scrimmage rushing for 212 yards, 5 touchdowns, and averaging nearly 6 yards per rush. The running game was led by Don Williams, who ran 15 carries for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Garrett Carter, Chase Estrada, and Omar Borrayo also scored for the Eagles. Hayden Clearman was steady, as always, starting for the injured Dane Ledford, completing 77% of his passes for 214 yards.
Eagle defense held the Paris offense, allowing only 223 yards with 71 yards through the air. The Eagles forced three turnovers while maintaining the shutout well into the second quarter. With a 31-7 halftime lead, the defense turned up the pressure, allowing only a field goal after a muffed punt.
Garrett Carter played a phenomenal game, catching two passes for 43 yards, and on one attempt, rushing for 19 yards and a touchdown. To top off his night, Carter was also voted Homecoming King by his fellow classmates.
“It’s definitely something I won’t ever forget,” Carter said. “It’s a huge honor and one of my proudest accomplishments.”
The Eagles have a bye week next week, but they will play Decatur in the district opener on October 7th in Decatur. Decatur is 3-2, with wins against Springtown, Stephenville and Bridgeport. They lost to Alvarado and Midlothian heritage. This will be Argyle’s first true road game with the previous “away” games either being at neutral sites or in the case of Abilene Wylie, cancelled.
