This past weekend, UNICEF officers took a trip to D.C. together to attend a 4H conference where multiple speakers talked and discussed different topics throughout UNICEF.

This conference is based on student leading and coping ideas from all around the world.

“We got a lot of ideas from different UNICEF groups across the globe to bring back to our campus.” Junior officer Samantha Terrell said. “This included stuff like fundraising, educational screenings, and service projects.”

Many ideas and experiences were shared among students and teachers all around the world.

“We were there to learn more about the philanthropy ideas and projects UNICEF does as a group and how high school and college campuses can work better on promoting advocacy.” Terrell said.

The Argyle UNICEF officers departed for the airport on Friday and will return from their conference trip on Tuesday.

Over the course of the conference, there will be several speakers such as UNICEF ambassador Samantha Power, CEO of UNICEF Caryl Stern, and Monique Coleman, one of several lead roles from High School Musical.

“Caryl Stern was an amazing speaker.” Terrell said. “She is a dedicated philanthropist who takes her time for over sea trips with UNICEF. She taught us so many things and her passion was what enabled her to be apart of UNICEF.”

UNICEF picked ten schools out of four hundred, this year Argyle was honored to be one of them.

“UNICEF provided our meal and lodging, everything else was paid by us” UNICEF officer Aj Fine said.

Every day was a day of new learning for Argyle’s UNICEF officer and Mrs. Arrington.

“Everyday we woke up at seven and had panel conferences, key note speakers and group teachings.” Terrell said. “It was an all day learning experience for each day.”
