Old Style is Making a Comeback
May 5, 2016
There’s a new trend sweeping our generation – or rather an old trend. This retro theme is coming into styles of clothing, appliances, and home decor. Our generation has found a love for vintage, and it is seen in more ways than one. One of the big hits among teens is Polaroids. These cameras first came out in 1948 and work by using thin plastic sheets that produce a high degree of plane polarization when light passes through the lens. These cameras have become more compact; however, they still create the instant photo with a vintage filter teens love.
“My parents used this camera,” senior Kenzie Cvar said. “They’re really cool, so I got more film for it and use it all the time. They make for such cute pictures, and they decorate my walls super well.”
Other appliances returning to the future include record players, which have recently become a must have for an urban look in the home. Record players come in all different colors and styles and are known for their sound when playing music.
“You get a different sound from a record player,” senior Ali Childress said. “The instruments all blend together, so you’re not hearing specific parts. Instead, you hear the whole song playing together, and it makes for a really unique sound – not like a radio or ear buds.”
Not only have vintage electronics come into style, but so have vintage clothes. White wash denim and bright patterns are the most prominent to make a comeback. Stores like Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, and Forever 21 are the most commonly shopped at stores to get the desired vintage, urban look.
“I really like the style trend right now,” senior Eighmy Dobbins said. “It’s super edgy, and I think it looks really cool. Urban Outfitters is seriously the best. I get a lot of my favorite outfits from there.”
Style is always changing, and the retro urban theme is very in. It is a carefree look and creates a laid back feeling that can affect your wardrobe, electronics, and home.
