This year, the girls basketball team has seen success as early as district. Coming off of an state title, this experienced team anticipates similar success to last year’s team.

“We made a goal as a team to be undefeated in district,” Sophomore Gabby Standifer (33) said. “After we hopefully accomplish that goal we will just go game by game, continue to work hard in practice  and try to make it to San Antonio.”

Although the team lost two starters from last year, they are still an experienced unit with their own new strengths that will help them propel them through district and through the playoffs.

“I think we have a deeper team than we had last year,” Sophomore Sophie Betzhold (14) said. “Most of the people on the team are able to go in and score and most anyone on the team is able to start.”

With addition of new player, Standifer (33), the Eagles have been able to improve their outside shooting along with several other aspects of the game.

“I think I bring an outside shooting threat,” Standifer said. “Being able to play all positions on the floor, communication on offense and defense, leadership, I’m very competitive and I like to have fun.”

The Lady Eagles are currently 5-0 in district play with five games to play until playoffs. In the past, their skills have allowed them to play great in district every year.

“Our strong points are our versatility for people to play different positions on the court, our ability to score from anywhere on the floor, playing together and sharing the ball,” Standifer said.

The Lady Eagles are already looking forward to the possibility of making their third straight state appearance. With so much talent, it would not be a surprise to see them again.

“I think that we have a really great team this year,” Betzhold said. “We work really well together and I hope that’s enough to get us to state.”
