Eagles Victorious over Decatur
October 2, 2015
The Eagles defeated Decatur on Tuesday on the Eagles’ home court, redeeming their loss in the state final last year.
“It’s just set in all of our minds that we are going to be as good as we can against any opponent,” Eighmy Dobbins (1) said. “but of course we are going to beat Decatur more because they beat us last year when it mattered.”
The first set began with kills by Dobbins and Emma Malone (8) giving the Eagles an early lead of 5-2 over Decatur. To end a close first set, Maddie Deguire (2) recovered a hard hit by Decatur to win 25-21.
“I think that we have a higher level of talent on this team compared to last year where we were kinda equal,” Alexa Bass said.
The second set started with the Eagles taking an early lead. The Eagles were not able to serve the ball over the net, decreasing their lead over Decatur to 11-5. After a while, Paxton McGlinch (13) and Malone saved the Eagles’ lead, making the score 16-8. After Allison White (7) blocked a volley by Decatur, she then tipped the ball over the net giving the Eagles a huge lead with the score of 20-9. After a few more minutes of play, the game was close and Alexa Bass (4) had a kill making the score 22-24, but the Eagles were not able to catch up to Decatur in time. They lost the second set 25-23.
The third set began with Dobbins making a key play for the Eagles. Afterwards, White killed the ball over the net, the score 4-6. The ball was volleyed for a while which ended in the Eagles’ favor giving them a 13-8 lead over Decatur. The Eagles took the third set 25-18.
“We’re just all really pumped for this game because they are our rivals, so it’s the mentality of ‘we want to kick butt’,” Bass said.
Entering the fourth set, the tension is high for both the team and the crowd. Throughout the game Argyle has a huge lead until they finally beat Decatur 25-18. After beating their rivals, the Eagles are looking forward to the rest of the season.
“Your role on the team is not to suck,” White said. “So you better not.”
