Eagles Defeat Wilmer-Hutchins 52-8

The Eagles faced Wilmer-Hutchins in Dallas Friday night on October 16. Argyle came out victorious with a score of 52-8.

Although Wilmer-Hutchins received the ball, Argyle’s defense effectively withheld their offense. With 9:47 left in the first quarter, Taylor Sweatt (7) ran in the first touchdown of the game. With 3:30 left in the first quarter, Caleb Holt (28) kicked a field goal for the Eagles. With 1:23 left in the first quarter, the Eagles fumbled the snap. This was recovered by Wilmer-Hutchins, ending the first quarter with the Eagles leading 10-0.

“We just came out and played hard,” Sweatt said.

The second quarter began with Dane Ledford (2) scoring for the Eagles, bringing their lead to 18-0. Once the ball was in the Eagles’ possession, Chad Book (81) successfully kicked another field goal making the score 21-0. The first half ended with Holt kicking a field goal which brought the Eagles up 24-0.

“We are all the same age group, and we’re just kids,” Sweatt said. “Kids make mistakes, and we just made less mistakes today.”

The third quarter began with the ball in the Eagles’ possession. Ledford handed the ball off to Sweatt who scored another touchdown, making the score 31-0. With 7:91 left in the third quarter, Wilmer-Hutchins scored their first touchdown making the score 31-8. With 2:59 left in the third quarter, Sweatt scored a touchdown for the Eagles making the score 38-8.

“We know we had to come out hard and not lag because any team can beat any team on any day,” Sweatt said.

In the fourth quarter, Gage Campbell (17) scored his first touchdown of the season, giving the Eagles a 45-8 lead. After Matthew Horton (49) recovered a Wilmer-Hutchins fumble, Dillon Carter (9) connected with Chase Estrada (46) for another touchdown, giving the Eagles a 52-8 victory over Wilmer-Hutchins.

“I felt like our whole team had a great performance,” Campbell said. “Everyone just played hard.”
