Coming off a loss against Celina, the Eagles defeated Graham to improve their season record to 2-1.

The Eagles had their first home game against the Graham Steers on Friday, Sept. 18. The first quarter started with a Steer’s kick off, giving the Eagles possession. During the beginning of the first quarter, possession of the ball went back and forth until there were about nine minutes left in the first quarter when Taylor Sweatt (7) scored the first touchdown of the game. With about four minutes left in the first quarter, Gage McCook (5) scored a second touchdown for the Eagles. With one minute left in the first quarter, an attempted Steers’ touchdown was shut down by an Eagles stop, ending the first quarter.

“They [the Steers] got down there, and we stopped them,” McCook said.

With a little under nine minutes left in the second quarter, Drew Estrada (3) increased the Eagles lead by scoring a touchdown. The Graham Steers finally scored their first touchdown with a little over two minutes left in the second quarter, making the score 21-7. JC Chalk (25) quickly responded with a 62 yard touchdown reception with almost two minutes left in the second quarter. At the end of the second quarter, the Steers scored for the second time of the night to make the score 28-14.

“It was good to get the bitter taste out of my mouth,” Chalk said. “So I was pretty proud.”

Sweatt started off the third quarter with a 62 yard touchdown, increasing the Eagles’ lead. With 9 minutes remaining in the third, the Eagles increased their lead to 42-14 after another McCook touchdown. The Steers scored once again in the fourth to bring the score to 42-21, entering the 4th quarter.

“They wanted us to come out and make a statement,” Sweatt said.

The Eagles forced a safety with about seven minutes left in the game to increase their lead to 44-21. Later, they kicked a field goal with about two minutes remaining, bringing the final score to 47-21, clinching their second win of the season.

“This week we played a lot better, and it felt good,” Dylan Sadler (4) said.
