The Eagles stayed in familiar territory with another win as they faced an undefeated Paris Wildcats in front of their home crowd on Friday, Sept. 25.

The Eagles started the game by kicking off to Paris. The Eagles held Paris’s offense in check and forced them to punt. Dillon Carter (9) started under center for the Eagles’ first drive. They were not able to put anything together and punted the ball off to Paris.

Once the Eagles recovered the ball, they quickly scored a touchdown with 3:00 left in the first, giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead. However, the Eagles’ defense was not able to control Paris’s offense. The Wildcats scored a touchdown with 1:28 left in the first quarter, tying the score 7-7.

In the second quarter, Eagles made a field goal with 1:54 left in the second, which would send them into the half ahead of Paris 10-7. During halftime, Eagles were awarded the Lone Star Cup, celebrating their excellence in sports, academics, and other school activities.

Coming into the third, Paris was not able to contain the Eagles’ high octane offense as Sweatt quickly punched in a touchdown, putting Argyle up 17-7. The Eagles’ defense were able to keep Paris in check, not allowing them to score. When the Eagles got the ball, however, they were able to put up another 7, increasing their lead to 24-7 .

“We gave up a couple bigs plays here and there but that’s our defense,” senior defensive end Jacob Forrer (43) said. “We are high risk, big high reward, and I’ll take twenty points any game.”

In the fourth quarter, the Eagles run away with the game after another touchdown putting them up 31-14 with 1:14 left in the game. Paris then took Argyle’s kickoff all the way to the house, but it was too little to late. The Eagles took the game over Paris 31-20.

“This was my best personal performance of the season,” senior running back Taylor Sweatt (7) said. “It helps to have a good line to open up big holes.”

Overall the Eagles played a great game on both sides of the ball, but in the future they need to focus on taking care of the ball and prevent giving up big plays.

“Our offenses stepped up, and we had a good running game,” coach Jay McCook said. “That’s what we have tried to improve on every week, and it showed this game.”
