Since the fall, students have been seeing signs of renovation at the baseball field, tennis courts, and even the football field.  According to Superintendent Dr. Telena Wright, all changes at the current high school and middle school campus will be complete by the fall of 2015, culminating with the new middle school campus in Aug. of 2016.

“We have the athletic upgrades already under way,” Wright said.

One of the major renovations being made is to the softball and baseball fields, with a proposed finish date of Jan. 30. Opening day for the entire community is scheduled to follow on Feb. 9.

“We have softball turf that’s already down and baseball turf,” Wright said. “We will be getting bleacher seating at the baseball and softball fields.”

Additions will also be made that include even bigger visual changes to the outer perimeter of campus.

“We’ve got an indoor activity center started,” Wright said. “That’s for athletics and for band.”

The activity center will not be done until August. This building will eliminate many concerns about weather with outdoor activities

“It will keep students out of the brutal August heat,” Wright said. “It will also keep students out of the cold, cold winter, and allow them to practice without weather restrictions.”

Several additions will also be made to the football stadium. All of that construction should be done by the fall.

“Over at the stadium, we’re increasing seating on both sides,” Wright said. “We’re adding restrooms on the visitors side, and then we’re adding a girls’ field house.”

Other changes and additions are also being made to the tennis courts which should be done by the middle of April.

“We’re getting four new courts,” head tennis coach Jason Cate said. “All eight courts will have lights.”

The team has waited for these courts and is anxious to see them finished.

“We’re all excited,” Cate said. “All the kids on the team are excited about it; it’s just going to create opportunity for more growth for the program.”
