The band went to Bowie high school to have an individual try-out for a spot in the Region 2 Band on Dec. 6. Sixty-seven students from the band tried out and forty-five of them made the bands, and of that, twenty-nine students qualified for the Area level which puts them on the track for All-State Band.

Region Band is a competition where band students go head-to-head with other musicians from around the state on selected scales and etudes (exercises specific for each instrument). Each student only has one audition.

“It feels great because I didn’t make it to state last year,” senior Ben Roney said. “Now I have another shot at trying to make it to state this year.”

It is an honor for Argyle band, not only taking 2014 state, but also excelling individually as performers.

“I practice about an hour and a half on most days,” senior Will Hendryx said. “It feels really good because this year we have been working our tails off so it’s nice to be rewarded for the hard work we’ve done so far.”

Students who are selected for All-State Band will travel to San Antonio in February. There they will spend time with other students on their level, learning to perform for the final concert at the Texas Music Educators Conference.

Good luck to all band students for competing in Region Band and congratulations to the Argyle Band for taking the 2014 Marching Band state title.
