The marching band competed in their first contest of the year this past Saturday, Oct. 4 at C. H. Collins Stadium in Denton, Texas. Competing against schools of many different classifications, the band placed third. Southlake-Carroll high school and Sherman high school placed first and second, leaving the Eagle band first in its division. Along with placing third, the band’s color guard placed first overall, beating all the schools that placed in finals.

“We exceeded my expectations for this contest,” assistant high school band director Asa Burk said. “We did very well both in prelims and in finals.”

The band placed third in prelims as well, only eight tenths of a point behind the first place band, to move on to finals. Also in prelims, the band was awarded first place in color guard and percussion as well as first in their division. The band went on to hold their ranking in the finals and place third. The band is only at the beginning of their journey to state though, from this point there is still more to work on.

“We will review our performance and fix the things we didn’t do well,” sophomore band member Becca Luttrell said. “Then we’ll add more visuals to the show.”

With last weeks performance in mind, the band will continue to perfect and work on their show for this week’s contest at Little Elm.  The band performs at Little Elm Stadium in Little Elm, Texas on Oct. 11 at 4 o’clock.
