The Argyle men’s golf team kicked off the fall season by participating in the largest high-school golf tournament in the nation, the Bart Granger Tournament, which took place in Fort Worth, Texas. The tournament was held in honor of a Paschal High School golfer who had passed away at an early age. The team played through pouring rain the first round and fired a team total of 300 the second round. The Eagles, despite being the smallest school represented, finished in 19th place out of 52 teams in a very impressive field. The team competed in two other tournaments, one located at Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Arkansas, where they competed against the 2013 4A state champions Highland Park along with many other competitive teams. Lastly the boy’s team competed at Robson Ranch Golf Course, where they placed 2nd out of 24 teams despite being the smallest school there. Moving from the fall to the spring season, the boy’s golf team has high goals after placing 2nd at the UIL State tournament last year. Boy’s golf coach Coach Bell explained that his main goal for the spring season is to “Work as hard as we can everyday, hoping that each of our players can reach their maximum potential.” The senior captain also set high goals for the team and himself, stating that his main goal is to “finish top 3 at state as an individual and win state as a team.” The girl’s golf team also looks to extend successes from last year, after advancing to regionals. They competed in 3 tournaments this fall, and team members Marisa Roden and Leyton King lead the team in scoring average during the fall season. The Argyle golf program hopes to expand successes and reach goals that the program has never accomplished before.
