Argyle high school was presented with the UIL Lone Star Cup at a presentation during half-time of the Eagle vs. Nolan Catholic football at home Friday night, Sept. 6.
“The UIL Lone Star Cup honors the best overall academic and athletic programs in the state of Texas,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “It takes contributions from every student, teacher and coach in all facets of UIL competition to win this outstanding award. The winning schools and communities should be proud of this incredible achievement.”
With state championships in academics and marching band, a state runner-up in boys golf, and a state semifinalist volleyball team, Argyle earned 82 total Lone Star Cup points for the 2012-13 school year. The Eagles also earned points in UIL football, boys and girls basketball and baseball. This is the fourth UIL Lone Star Cup victory for Argyle High School.
The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to five high schools, one in each of the five UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. The winning schools in each classification receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship, also presented by the UIL. UIL Director of Athletics Dr. Mark Cousins will be on hand to make the presentation.
The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 season.
