Though highly anticipated to be one of the toughest games of the season, the team smashed the scrambling Wylie Bulldogs this Friday and never let up, eventually scoring 38 points and giving up zero.
The game started off explosively, with the boys forcing and recovering a fumble in the Bulldogs’ first drive. Nick Ralston proceeded to show the world why Argyle football is the best and run play after play, driving the team down the field despite every effort from the Bulldogs’. In appropriate fashion, Ian Sadler scored the first touchdown of the season and set the tone for the rest of the night.
Of course Reese Thompson recovered a fumble after the subsequent kickoff. And on defense throughout the remaining first half, Micah Capra, Reese Thompson, Connor Wilson, Sam Sizelove (the Bulldogs’ QB never knew what hit him!), and Jack Weaver continued to deal heavy blows to the Bulldogs’ hopes. Jon Michael Pucciarello and Ian Sadler continued marching their team forward. Jett Monroe recovered a potentially disastrous fumble, and Brandon Boyzuick ran and scored the team’s second touchdown of the game. Nick Ralston ran another touchdown, and to conclude the game’s first half, Cole Hedlund bounced a record-breaking 57-yard field goal off the uprights.
Colten Hinnrichs, Ian Sadler, and Nick Ralston never missed a beat in the third quarter. Sadler scored his second touchdown of the game, putting the Eagles at 31 points (and as many points ahead of Wylie). The Bulldogs might have felt they could score just one touchdown, but those dreams vanished when Hinnrichs slammed into their QB for the sack. As the game was winding down, Nick Ralston caught an impressive pass and took the team all the way to the 1-yard line and, for good measure, scored the team’s closing touchdown the very next play.
This Friday night the team’s set to give Nolan Catholic (ranked #3 of the league’s private schools) a raucous welcome to Argyle. Gonna be a good game (for us!), so come on out to the stadium and give a shout for the team! It’s not so common that you find a collection of players who begin their season as thunderously as this one.
