56th Grammy Awards

This past weekend, Jan. 26, the 56th Grammy’s took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The awards, hosted by L L Cool J, included performances by Beyonce, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Lorde, Imagine Dragons, Pink!, and many more. Over the three and a half hour show, more than 30 awards were given out including Album of the Year to Daft Punk for their album Random Access Memories, and Song of the Year to Lorde for her hit single “Royals”.

As for controversies at the Grammy’s, this year was far better than previous years. Besides some debate over Beyonce’s “promiscuous” performance, this year’s Grammy awards were far more modest. Perhaps some of the best performances of the night were Imagine Dragons performance of Radioactive, featuring rapper Kendrick Lamar, and Pink! who performed “Just Give Me a Reason” while doing acrobatics while singing.

Many awards were given during the show to numerous musicians. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won Best New Artist, Imagine Dragons for Best Rock Performance, Vampire Weekend for Best Alternative Music Album, and many others including Bruno Mars for Best Pop Vocal Album and Kasey Musgraves winning Best Country Album.

Junior, Scarlett Perritt, attended the award show for the third time this past weekend. During the show, she came across many celebrities, one of which was musician, Steven Tyler.

“Seeing Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney perform was the best part of the night,” Perritt said.

Out of all the great performances, some of the performances were very unusual.

“Katy Perry was the weirdest of them all because she was dressed up like a witch,” Perritt said. Perritt hopes to attend the 57th Grammy’s next year with her family.

This years Grammy awards were definitely memorable with so many newcomers winning multiple awards as well as many musicians who had previously been nominated. It looks like the 57th Grammy Awards will have a lot to live up to.
