For their first year ever, Argyle cheerleaders competed in the UIL state cheer competition. The competition took place in Arlington on Saturday, January 16th. Senior captain Heather Lindemann reflects on the event.

“It was pretty stressful and we had an extremely long day,” Lindemann said. “But overall it went really well, especially for the limited amount of practice we had.”

The Argyle cheer team began preparing for State in November of 2015.

“We had so many early morning practices before school and on weekends to get ready for the competition,” junior Annette Linahan said. “I think for our first time competing, we prepared pretty well.”

On the morning of the competition, the cheer team loaded the bus and left for Arlington.

“The day of the competition was so long,” Lindemann said. “We left the school at 6:00 a.m. and didn’t get back until 10:30.”

During the competition, cheer teams performed their schools’ fight songs, Time Out Band Dance, and Time Out Cheer in both preliminary and final rounds.

“The most fun part was probably right before the final round when our entire team was together,” Linahan said. “We all just acknowledged that even though it was a really long and hard day, going out there and doing our best would make it worth it.”

After performing their final routine, the cheerleaders waited to receive their scores.

“We found out that we got 8th out of 62 teams,” Lindemann said. “Which I think is pretty good considering it was our first year.”

After the long day of loud cheering and exhausting routines, the cheer team headed back to Argyle after placing in the top ten of all teams.

“It was a really good experience” senior Micki Hirschorn said. “I’m glad we could be a part of it.”
