With the end of district play last Friday, the Argyle tennis program hasn’t ended yet. Two boys’ doubles teams, Shashwat Tripathi and Brandon Couch along with Evan Peak and Parker Platt, and a girls’ single player, Gabriella Cate, will be advancing to the regional tournament to play for a spot in the state tournament, and the boys’ team won the district tournament.

“In the spring season,” coach Jason Cates said, “we saw several players improve their game as we took several individual medals at the district tournament.”

The team prepared for district by attending various tournaments and matches throughout the spring semester. That work paid off with the boys’ team winning the district tournament and the girls’ team being the runner up.

“Over the season,” Couch said, “my partner Shashwat and me practiced many hours in order to make it to regionals.”

Now, the players going to regionals are preparing for the region tournament.

“I believe that our kids will be able to raise their level of play and have some success at regionals,” Cates said. “Shashwat and Brandon are returning for their second straight year, so they should be able to draw off the experience to help calm their nerves and play solid tennis.”
