Argyle Tennis Closes Out Successful Season

Jason Cate, AHS Head Tennis Coach

Gabriella Cate lost a very tough 1st round match to Melissa in 3 sets 0-6, 6-2, 6-4. She has had a great year and to advance to Regionals is such an accomplishment, especially as a freshman. She is up for the Newcomer of the Year award.

Evan Peak and Parker Platt won their 1st round match over Princeton 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the Quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals they lost to Kaufman 6-3, 6-0.

Brandon Couch and Shashwat Tripathi won their 1st round match over Princeton 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the Quarterfinals. Then beat Atlanta 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) to advance to the Semifinals. In the Semifinal match they lost to the #2 seed Wills Point 6-3, 6-2. They will play Kaufman tomorrow morning at 9:00 for 3rd place and for a possible playback match to advance to the State Tournament.

*UPDATE: Earlier this morning Brandon and Shashwat lost to Kaufman in the 3rd place match 6-3, 7-5. They had a great season as they were able to advance to the regional semi-finals, a round farther than last year.

If you see any of the tennis kids in class or in the halls this week, please congratulate them on a great season. To finish as Girls District Runner Up, Boys District Champions, and to have 5 kids qualify for Regionals, they have truly had a great year.
