Sample of Listeria bacteria (Creative Çommons)

Kari Frederick, Director of Child Nutrition

Blue Bell, who is one of our vendors, has issued a recall on several products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.  Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause illness presented as fever and muscle aches, sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.  I want to assure parents that the district is aware of this recall and the minimal amount of affected product in our inventory was immediately pulled and destroyed by Blue Bell. As an added precaution, the ice cream freezers on all campuses have been defrosted and sanitized. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (940) 464-7241 ext. 1010.
