After district competitions a week earlier, six Argyle wrestlers qualified for the regional competition on February 13th-14th. Chase Roth placed first, Dominic Koziol placed second, while Jameson Shaw, Logan Weitzer, Grant Weitzer, and Cooper Richter all placed third in their division.

With those wrestlers qualifying, the athletes are looking to continue their hard work for the regional tournament.

“We are practicing the same amount,” junior Dominic Koziol said. “The team is sticking to our usual schedule which includes lifting, conditioning, just doing what we can do to be prepared for region.”

Before moving on to the regional tournament, the team first had to overcome the competition at district and put the required preparation in.

“We all prepared very hard,” junior Chase Roth said. “The team works hard physically and mentally on the mat and hopefully we can dominate at regional competition.”

The competition is fierce at the district tournament, but even the newcomers on the team made a statement by qualifying for the regional tournament.

“When I heard that I was moving onto region I was very excited,” sophomore Logan Weitzer said.  “Considering this is my second year wrestling, I’m very proud to be able to move on with my teammates.”

Before the season, the team was able to organize various practice sessions with different opponents in order to prepare for district.

“This year we participated in a lot of extra practices with different teams,” Koziol said. “That got us the plus of training with various people and it helped us in the long run.”

One of many wrestlers on the team has his eye on their biggest competition at region and is looking to advance to state.

“I think Jacob Moore from Centennial will be my best match-up,” Roth said. “Looking ahead to state he will be the guy I have to get past.”

Nevertheless, all the athletes that qualified are ecstatic and are happy for one another.

“It was great to see that a majority of the team made it,” Koziol said. “I was really proud of our guys because some were first-timers, and some I haven’t seen wrestle before. I’m just really excited to be a part of it.”
