Both the Lady Eagles and Eagles basketball teams made statement wins Friday night against the rival Celina Bobcats. The girls won 56-28, followed by a boy’s victory of 72-39.

The girls took the court, grabbed an early lead, and never let go.

“It’s awesome,” senior Jesse Sheridan said. “We wanted to play tough and beat them by a lot because it puts us back in first place in district.”

Argyle and Celina have a long history of rivalry games, including a memorable Argyle victory in last year’s semi-finals.

“It’s great beating them,” junior Olivia Gray said. “It’s always great beating Celina in any sport.”

Since Celina came into Argyle earlier this year and upset the reigning district champs, this game had extra meaning for the Lady Eagles.

“We’ve been thinking about this game since they beat us in our house,” Sheridan said. “We were really ready to work hard, play our best, and as a team come together.”

Argyle carried this determination into the boy’s varsity game as the Eagles made their own statement win.

“We played well as a team,” junior J.C. Chalk said. “We executed pretty well and did pretty good on defense in the second half. In the first half, we struggled a bit, but we did better and better as the game went on. Overall, it was a good team performance.”

With this win, the Eagles are starting to pick up momentum at the right time while keeping their eyes focused on their future goals.

“It’s a confidence booster,” Chalk said. “We haven’t been playing as well as we should have been in a few games, so it’s a good peak for us to keep playing at this level.”
