A seventh inning eagle rally extended the season last Saturday. Argyle’s win not only advanced them to the regional finals, but also stopped Pleasant Grove from reaching the state tournament for the first time in 7 years.
This series was the first win of three playoff meetings played between the teams, and the victory sent the Eagle’s to the regional finals for the 3rd time in school history. However, their season came dangerously close to ending in the last game.
After reaching game three of the series with Pleasant Grove, the eagles were down 1-0 heading into the top of the 7th with only their last three outs left. A leadoff single by Ryley Balch would prove that the game wasn’t over yet. A sacrifice bunt and two errors would tie the game 1-1 and a well-placed bunt by Drew Gooch scored Cutter McDonald the go ahead run.
With only a one run lead to work with, Gooch returned to the mound for the last inning. With one Hawks player reaching second with two outs, Gooch was able to cause Joe Pearlman to ground out to 1st. This ended the Hawks season and extended the Eagles another week.
The Eagles will take on Paris North Lamar in a three game series beginning Thursday, May 29th at McKinney Boyd High School. The following game will take place on Friday, May 30th at Paris North Lamar and if necessary, a third game will take place Saturday at McKinney Boyd.
