Girls Golfers Finish Shy of State Qualification

Girls+Golfers+Finish+Shy+of+State+Qualification

Frigid winds coming off of Lake Texoma, temperatures dropping to below freezing after nightfall, and waking up to frost and 32 degree tee times on the second day of the tournament; these are just a few of the conditions the golfers had to suffer over the course of the region tournament. However, on day two, despite the rough start, the sun came out and by the end of the day when  the ladies were finishing up near sundown due to a late start from the guys, the day turned out pretty nice, and just a great  day to be on a golf course.

Coached by Sammye Townsend, two members of the Argyle girls golf team earned their way to Tanglewood Golf Course as  individual medalists this year for the two-day region golf tournament where 88 golfers competed for a shot at state.

“I was not happy with my final results because I felt that I did not play to my best ability throughout the two day tourney,” sophomore Leyton King said. “But I enjoyed spending quality time with my teammates and coach ultimately creating memories we will all be able to cherish.”

Junior Jesse Sheridan, shot a 199 total while King recorded a final score of 202. Sheridan finished 20th overall while King was 24th. Although these scores were not enough to get them to state this year, the girls definitely have some talent.

“If they will put in a little more time on the course, there is no reason they can’t be here again next year,” Townsend said. “They really do have a shot at state if they will work at it.”
