It “‘tis the season to be jolly”. The holidays are about celebrating with loved ones and spreading the happiness and cheer.

Now that the weather has turned wintery, it seems that the holidays and their comforting essences have finally arrived. Sometimes we, as very fortunate people, lose sight of the true meaning of the holidays. There are so many people around us in our own area that are neglected and need, not only love, but also food and clothing.

One of our fellow Argyle students, Lizzy Surratt, went to a soup kitchen over Thanksgiving break.

“It was really eye opening to see how bad some people really have it,” Surratt said.  “In Argyle, we live in a bubble that can make us lose our perspective sometimes.”

As a community that is very fortunate, the citizens of Argyle should all do their best to volunteer or donate to one of the many foundations or shelters in this area. Sometimes, we forget that there is a lot of work to be done in areas as close as even Denton or Dallas.

“I’m glad my parents took me to the soup kitchen because now I want to encourage others to also donate and make a difference in our area,” Surratt said.

Donating to other countries is always good, but improvements are needed here too. This season is about spreading cheer and there would be no better way than to give to those who truly need it. Serve Denton is an amazing nonprofit organization that works to improve the Denton area. Their information on how to help is below along with a few other shelters that would embrace volunteers or donations enthusiastically.
