With the completion of their UIL competition, the band has finished the contest season.

At the first contest of the season, the band started off well. They made it to finals in 7th place, a good placing against 4A and 5A schools. When finals came around though the bands position dropped from 7th to 10th. Out of the bands that had made finals, they had placed last. This didn’t stop them though, it made them want to work even harder to do better at the next competition.

“I think the first contest was rough,” Director Kathy Johnson said. “But we kind of needed it to shake us up at little,” she sad.

This may be due to the influx of freshmen into the program this year.

“We had alot of new freshmen marchers that had not experienced a contest before,” Johnson said.”They understood after that what it’s all about.”

When the next competition came, the contestants were better prepared. They were able to play their show after a long rain delay and placed 2nd in the prelims 3A division. They advanced to finals and played even better than the first time, but so did the the other bands. They waited anxiously for the results and in the end earned 3rd place. This place was also against mostly 4A schools, with only one other 3A school beating them.

Now, all the Eagles had left was the big UIL contest, but they were ready. They got the best scores possible at a UIL competition, straight 1’s.

Last week the band deviated from their normal routine during their Halloween game show. It was still the same music, but with a twist. All the student were able to dress up in a costume of their choice as long as it didn’t interfere with there marching. This is usually a very fun game the students and is very relaxed from the hard work of the season.

Mrs. Johnson is excited about next years show and a chance at another state title.

“We’re going to take some of the musical and visual things that we’ve done in the past,” Johnson said. “And combine them so it is the best of all of our shows.”

Next week, they begin working on their drill for their Christmas during the playoffs of football.  This is some simple drill put along with Christmas music to go along with the holiday season.
