Seniors sign for college sports teams: (Left to right) Seth Jones (baseball), Dillon Harp (baseball), Allea Harris (basketball), Morgan McInaney (basketball), Spencer McCloud (track & field), Zach Dickerson (baskeball), and Trevor Jones (football).

‘Luck’ really has nothing to do with the seven seniors who signed on Friday, May 17 to play college sports. Four of the players will be staying in Texas for their college adventures, but several will be spread out across the states.

Head baseball coach Ricky Griffin spoke about Seth Jones’ and Dillon Harp’s contributions to the program.

“Seth has been one of the main keys on our pitching staff,” Griffin said. “Cisco Junior College is always competing to go to the Junior College World Series, and they are getting a fabulous player.”

Dillion Harp will attend Norman Oklahoma Junior College. Griffin believes that after two years we will see both players move to a Division 1 college to finish their baseball careers.

“Dillion is a huge part of the success we have had in this program over the last three years,” Griffin said.

Morgan McInaney is going to Lyon College in Arkansas for basketball.

“Morgan has grown into a really good basketball player,” coach Brady Bell said. “Her hustle and aggressive play is really going to be a great asset for Lyon College.”

Allea Harris is attending The University of Texas at Arlington to become a Maverick basketball player.

“We are so proud of Allea. She has really grown into a good player,” Bell said. “Her offensive skills are really going to be something for UT Arlington to use.”

Spencer McCloud is attending the University of Texas at Austin on a scholarship for high jump.

“This kid is probably walking away from this school with more state medals than any kid we have ever had,” Athletic Director, Todd Rodgers said. “I couldn’t say more about his individual accomplishments as an athlete.”

Zach Dickerson is attending Eastern Illinois University in Charleston for basketball.

Head basketball coach John King said that when he thinks about Zach, two things come to mind: character and work ethic.

“He is the kind of young man that we should all aspire to be,” King said. “Zach had high aspirations coming into high school. He told me when he was in ninth grade that he wanted to play college basketball, and he has dedicated so much of his spring, summer, and life to reaching that goal.”

Trevor Jones is attending Macalester College for football, a private liberal arts college located in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

“We had a great football season, 11-2 and Trevor was a very important cog in that,” Rodgers said. “This is a great academic school, and a great opportunity for Trevor to play college sports and advance his education.”

As the the seven seniors venture off into their new lives, they will be working toward new career goals with their new teams. These students may have encountered a little luck on their journey, but mostly, it’s more about work ethic, dedication, perseverance and a willingness to give their all both on and off the court or field.
