In conclusion of the district track meet on April 11, the Eagles took second place- sixty points behind the Celina Bobcats.

In high jump, senior Spencer McCloud, 3A reigning high jump state champion, took 1st place with a jump height of 6’2”, eight inches less than his personal record. McCloud has recently recovered from an ankle injury and said he “will be striving for some larger heights in the meets to come”. Senior Zach Dickerson, placed 4th with a 5’8″ and junior Hunter Treadwell 5’6” placing 6th overall. Both Dickerson and Treadwell had previous records of 5’10”.

After junior Reese Thompson was diagnosed with mono and out for the season, pole vault Coach Tommy Ledford found himself looking for someone to complete the team. Stepping up was junior Jon Pucciarello, who was very new to the event. At district Pucciarello took 1st place with a height of 14’6”. Sophomore Logan Dial took second with 12’6″ and sophomore Tanner Terry 3rd with 12′.

Senior long distance runners Alvaro Quintanilla  and Cameron Schafer ran their hearts out in the 3200m run, making sure it wasn’t their last race.  Alvaro finished 2nd and Cameron finished 4th.

After competing in the first half on Monday, Argyle had unfinished business in the sprints and middle distance races. In the open events, Argyle showed its true speed. Ian Sadler placed 3rd in the 100m dash and Connor Wilson placed 2nd in the 200m dash, both qualifying for Area’s.

Once again a successful performance by the long distance runner’s started with Gabriel Landin placing 1st in the 800m run. After that came the 1600m run (mile), where Landin placed 2nd  and Schafer placed 3rd, both qualifying for Area’s.  Quintanilla placing 5th overall.

In the hurdles junior Jake Weaver qualified for Area’s placing 4th in both the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles.

Freshman Taylor Sweat placed 3rd overall, qualifying in shot put.

All of the relay teams managed to make it out of District and onto Area’s with the 4×4 relay placing 4th.

The story of the day was how the 4×1 and 4×2 teams did missing Reece Thompson due to an illness.  Thompson has been a big contribution to the program since his freshman year. The coaches were desperate for someone to fill the spot. That’s where junior Hunter Treadwell came in. Treadwell had already filled the spot for Connor Wilson, who was out with an injury early in the season.  Treadwell been an alternate since Wilson’s return. But with Thompson out  he was back in the spotlight and didn’t miss a beat running in the 4×1 and 4×2 relays.

The 4×4 placed 2nd behind Celina, and the 4×2 set a lightning fast record of 1 minute 30 seconds, placing 2nd behind Celina once more.

“We’ll have to get our boy’s leg’s freshened up for Area’s and work on getting our handoffs perfect,” Coach Steve Chancelor said.  Chancelor has his mind set on beating Celina and has no doubt that his boys will rise to the task.

All in all the Eagle’s had some remarkable performance’s and will be ready for the Area meet in the upcoming week, hosted by Argyle.
