Sporting Clay Team Focuses on Safety, Skill

The Argyle Sporting Clay Team has been quite a success in its first year in existence. The team has been run by the Youth Target Foundation and by parent volunteers who were willing to help and go through the safety training. There are many different levels of experience on the team. There are kids that have been shooting their whole life and some that are just learning how. At the beginning of the year every person involved went through a safety course at the school, put on by Elm Fork Shooting Sports. Not only did it ensure the safety of everyone while on the range, but it also made everyone a better shooter.

So far the team has attended two sporting clay competitions, and has done very well. The first competition was a 50 target Ducks Unlimited Shoot at Elm Fork Shooting Range. Argyle had three competitors place. Alec Lenamon (freshman), Ben Chowning (freshman), and Aaron Zarvou (senior) all placed in their categories.

”Its great to see a high school team emerge like this,” student president Aaron Zarvou said.  “I’m so glad that my peers and I have gotten the opportunity to participate on the team. I hope to see more and more people join the team in the future. I think it is great to see everyone come out and learn about the sport, and more importantly the safety of firearms. I just could not be more excited for this sport.”

The second competition was a 100 target Green Wing Shoot at Fossil Point Shooting Range. This shoot was a great experience and Dean Eddy (senior) placed in his category. The Argyle Sporting clay team has a lot to look forward to in the upcoming months.
