The new Argyle Clay Sporting Team (ACST) board includes (left to right) Colton Wilkes, Chase Kammerer, Bailey McClure and President Aaron Zarvou.

Founded within the last year, the Sporting Clay Team is “having a blast” preparing for the 2013 competition season.

The team and its sponsors are currently working to educate members on skeet shooting before going to the gun range.

“Most of the people on the team have never shot,” President Aaron Zarvou said. “So our main focus is to get them into the classroom and teach them about safety and technique. Once we are all comfortable, we’ll move to the range and start practicing.”

Devoting time outside of school, the Sporting Clay Team trains in the lecture hall Monday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 and prepared members drive to the Elm Form shooting range Saturday mornings from 7 to 10.

“We just want to give kids a chance to learn gun safety and proper shooting,” junior member Chase Kammerer said.

Students interested in the Sporting Clay Team may speak to high school senior Zarvou or sponsor Trevor Baker in the middle school.

“We supply the proper guns,” Zarvou said. “Supportive parents are only asked to buy ammunition for their child. Other than that, we just ask that members bring their head—their common sense—and come join us.”
